Ever since the trailer of Lipstick Under My Burkha came out, the movie is getting lots of attention for various reasons. The movie went through hard times as the film certification board didn’t approve many parts of the movie. But somehow, the movie managed to go through the harsh phase and got released few days ago in India after grabbing attention at global levels.
But, this is not the first movie that portrays the condition of women in Indian society. There are many other women oriented Indian movies that won viewers’ hearts. These popular movies successfully perfectly displayed the actual image of different situations in a woman’s life. In this post, I am going to list out some Indian movies that can deliver ultimate inspiration for the viewers:
- Kahaani (2012)
If you are watching a Bollywood movie and Vidya Balan is in it, there is no chance that the movie would disappoint you. The talented actress is known for playing unconventional and memorable roles in her movies and Kahaani is one those women oriented Bollywood movies.
The movie tells the story of a pregnant woman who travels from London to Kolkata to find her missing husband. What comes out as a result in end can send chills down your spine for sure. The movie is regarded as one of the finest Indian suspense drama movies.
- Queen (2013)
Whether it’s a super model from Mumbai or a happy go lucky girl from a small town, Kangana Ranaut can bring life to any character with her stupendous acting skills. Queen is not just a regular Hindi movie but also an inspiration or say a lesson for every Indian girl. This is the story of Rani, a simple girl from Delhi who dreams to live a happy married life with her husband.
A girl who is dumped by her fiancé just 2 days before the wedding decides to go on her honeymoon alone. On her trip to Paris, she explores the life and realizes that a girl doesn’t need to be with a man to be happy. Her fiancé is stunned to see her transformation and tries to get her back. This time, she dumps him and decides to live her life the way she wants.
- English Vinglish (2012)
English is one of the most used languages all over the world. But, this doesn’t mean that those who can’t speak English don’t deserve respect. English Vinglish is the story of Shashi, an Indian housewife who struggles to win the hearts of her husband and kids. She is often neglected and insulted by them for not being able to speak English.
Her life drastically changes when she goes to New York to attend her niece’s wedding. There, she joins a week long English learning class where she gets to meet different people. At the end, she gives an amazing speech on the wedding day and surprises everyone. Her husband and daughter apologize to her for underestimating her abilities for so many years. It is also regarded as one of the most appreciated women oriented Bollywood movies.
- Fashion (2008)
Success looks so luscious from outside but no one can imagine the harsh efforts and awful experiences behind that success. Fashion is the creation of Madhur Bhnadarkar who is known for making outstanding realistic movies. This is the story of Meghna, a girl who moves from Chandigarh to Mumbai to become a super model. This movie also tells how arrogance can ruin the success and what it takes to attain that success again.
- No One Killed Jessica (2011)
Based on a real incident, No One Killed Jessica was released in 2011 starring Vidya Balan and Rani Mukherji in lead roles. A rich brat shoots a girl in the bar and no one tries to save her. But, her younger sister decides to fight against the criminal and get justice for her sister. Since, the criminal belongs to a powerful political family, it’s a fire ride for the girl to deal with them. Even after all problems, she doesn’t stop and wins the case after some years.
- Arth (1982)
Relationships are hard and any sort of devastation in relationships can make it hard for a person to move on. A wife learns that her director husband is cheating on her with a famous actress and will leave her soon. She pleads him but he doesn’t listen to her and moves out with her girlfriend and is shocked to her very core and decides to move on.
Then, she gets a good job, gets an apartment on rent and tries to move on with her friends. After few days, she learns that his ex-husband’s life isn’t going well and he is dumped by the girlfriend. He wishes to move back with her wife but this time, she refuses to accept him back in her life. In my opinion, this is one of the best women oriented Bollywood movies I have seen so far.
- Neerja (2016)
When there is no other possible way to go, all you can do is to fight against the evil. Neerja is based on a real life incident that tells the story of an air hostess and her bravery. Everything goes normal unless she realizes that the plane has been hijacked.
Terrorists torture people and molest women in flight and that’s when she stands for everyone. She saves so many live at the stake of her own life. Sonam Kapoor hasn’t been seen in many women oriented Bollywood movies but she totally stunned her fans by her spectacular performance in this movie.
- Pink (2016)
Every girl deserves to live her life the way she likes but it is mistaken by some men as a sign of availability. Pink is the story of three girls who fight against all the wrong accusations and prove their innocence. It is the story of Minal who is invited along with her friends by Rajveer in a resort. Rajveer with his friends tries to molest the girls but Minal hits him on his head with a bottle. Later, Rajveer files a complaint against the girls and now girls have to fight back against all the false allegations.
Even though, the list could be really long but I just picked some of my favorite women oriented Bollywood movies. If you are having a hard time with anything in your life, then these movies can actually give you plenty of reasons to come out of it. Don’t let injudicious rules of society limit your life and be the writer of your own life story.
